About the Artist:
I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, ever since my mother introduced me to painting and drawing preceding elementary school, I have always kept art as a practice in my life. I have my BFA in Drawing from Texas State University, but my courses in Painting awakened me to the language I was able to speak through intentional brushstrokes and vibrant colors on a large scale. I lived In Brooklyn, New York for two and-a-half years following undergrad and relocated back to Texas to pursue my MFA.

With my paintings, I like to evoke the feeling of being awestruck by an eye-catching comic book cover or film poster. I revere the surrealism of Frida Kahlo and Dalí, the brushstrokes of Van Gogh and Sergeant, and the intensity through the masterpieces by Caravaggio and Gabrielle Dell’Otto.

Through those visual pillars I pose themes of ontology, autonomy, incorporeality, and irreverence through sensationalized vignettes of my own lived experiences. The message I want to get across is more so the question “Who am I?” or “What are We?”

I challenge myself to remember that I only have my story to tell and nobody else can tell it. It’s not always easy being so unabashedly bare for people to witness; but there is a freedom in owning who I am and disempowering the shame that is the true thief of joy. It is imperative to me more people as a whole unshackle themselves from shame
What drew you to wanting to work with ALPACA?
Community is highly important to me in the sense that we need to share our ideas, feelings, opinions, information and our life lessons to show other people there are multifaceted ways to express ourselves fully throughout this life. Albeit, a lot of my work does explore self-portraiture, the other half is comprised of the people that I surround myself with.
